The basic moves of chess can be learned in a few minutes. The object is to capture the opposing King while protecting your own.

The battleground is a chessboard with 64 chequered squares. There is always a white square on your right-hand side and the queen always starts on the same colour square as herself (ie black queen on a black square, white on a white).

Each square is identified by a number and a letter (eg the white queen starts on square d1, black king on e8 etc).  For more see Getting Started.
