League Rules

This year there are three divisions.  Each division has four teams and each team will play three matches.

Note addition to Rule 6.

  1. Matches will be between teams of six players. played in order of decreasing strength from board 1 to 6.  There are places for two reserves in each match.  These are optional, agreed between the team managers beforehand.  These results do not count in the competition.

  2. Where a club has more than one team in the league, reserves must be from teams in a lower division.  A player must not play above his/her normal team more than two times.  Team managers shall submit team lists before end of January.  If no list is received the result sheet for the first match will be taken as the registered six players.

  3. No player may play for more than one Club in the League.

  4. The Controller may deduct points (after contacting the manager concerned) if the Rules are broken.

  5. Clocks should be used in Division 1, and the lower Divisions if agreed by the managers.  The EPSCA Quickplay rules apply.  Each player is given 30 minutes.  If clocks are not used 60 minutes should be allowed for each game, and at the end of this time players should agree the results on the basis that a 3 pawn, or equivalent, advantage wins and anything less is a draw unless a player can demonstrate a forced mate or a gain of material.

  6. The games will score 1 point for a win, ½ for a draw, and 0 for a loss.  The result of each division will be determined on match points and with game points in the event of a tie.

  7. Match results should be reported by e-mail to agp@caldicott.com and to byca@supanet.com.  Please fill in the details on match result sheets.  The Date of Birth is required to produce grades.  If you do not have email, please report matches on the cards by post within 14 days (as defined by the postmark) of the match.  Where results are to be posted please send to :
