Bucks Junior Congress 2004

The Bucks Junior Congress took place at the Royal Grammar School on Sunday 17-Oct-04.  There was a good turn out this year with 98 players in total taking part at U8 (13), U10 (48), U12 (20), U14(13) and U18 (4) sections.  Each section consisted of six rounds.  There was a good standard shown by all players throughout the congress.

The U18 section was won by Andrew Lewis (6, Dr Challoner's Grammar), second was Michael Patrick (3½ , Aylesbury Grammar) and third was  Mark Amery (2½, Royal Latin).  Andrew Lewis is the Bucks U18 Champion.

The U14 section was won by Beaummont Tang (5, Dr Challoner's Grammar), equal second were Thilagini Anandajeyarajah (4½, SOP 18½, Tolworth Girls), David Saunders (4½, SOP 16, Royal Grammar School) and James Foster (4½, SOP 13, de Stafford). Beaummont Tang is the Bucks U14 Champion.

The U12 section was won by Sheila Dines (6, Old Palace), second was Ilya Iyengar (5, Beacon School), and equal third was David Mills (4, SOP=18, Yateley Manor) and Louis Thrumble (4, SOP=16, St Stephens).  Ilya Iyengar is the Bucks U12 Champion.

The U10 section was won by Calum You (6, Hamilton), equal second was Matthew Saunders (5, SOP=16,Hamilton) and Marcus Harvey (5, SOP=15, West Kidlington).  Calum You is the Bucks U10 Champion.  Best U10 Girl was Caroline Foster (Coulsdon).

The U8 section was a three way tie for first place separated by the narrowest of margins.  The U8 sections was won by Yanagita Yoya (5, SOP=19, Middlesex),  Charlie Basham (5, SOP=18, Hamilton) and Daniel Thomas (5, SOP=17,Kirkhill, Glasgow).  Charlie Basham is the Bucks U8 Champion.  Best U8 Girl was Eleanor Gill (Hamilton).

The Bucks Junior Congress is a London qualifying event.  Qualification is achieved with the following scores:

U12 - Major 4½ points          Minor 3½ points

U10 - Major 4½ points          Minor 3½ points

U8  - 4 points

No qualification score is required for the U14 or U18 section.
